I would have to agree that Dungeon of Doom is a good game, but is it
possible for an earthbound human to get below the 10th level?

I have been to level 40 and retrieved the orb with my sage;
unfortunately his name is still "Mr. Awesome". The only thing that I
am so far unable to do is to climb back out (some of the levels do not
have stairs going up where it seems they should be). By the way,
after you get the Orb of Chronos, WATCH OUT for the Dark Wizard.

Good Luck,

How are people doing on the Dungeons of Doom? I went down to the
bottom this weekend (it took about that long - off and on) and came
out with the Orb. My question is, "Can the Dark Wizard be killed?"
I was level 29, 168 hit points, +3 plate, +1 helmet, +1 gloves,
+4 two-handed sword, STR: 24, CON: 19, DEX: 21. I had and used
3 protection scrolls, 1 speed potion, 1 potion of resist cold,
1 potion of resist heat +1, and 2 potions (or is it scrolls?) of
invisability during my battle with the 'ol Dark Lord. He didn't
even hit me (except for a little minor damage while I spiffied
myself up and a few misc. zaps from wands) for about 20 turns
while I pounded and zapped him. Still, when the smoke cleared, he
seemed to be just peachy. I had to escape via the (strategically
placed) stairs.

Any other neat things anyone know about the game???

The Dark Wizard CAN BE KILLED!

I had one indispensable item: a regeneration ring. It took two or
three fights with him to kill him off. In between fights I used a
fear wand to scare him off and then ran away (regaining my hit points
at a fantastic rate, thanks to the regeneration ring). Unfortunately,
I have been unable to get back to the top. I am stuck on a higher
level (26, I think) because there seems to be no stairway leading up!

After playing Dungeon of Doom for hours, and not getting very far, I had 3
choices:
    1. Give up and put the disk away for awhile.
    2. Keep playing and hope for a little luck.
    3. CHEAT!!!

Anyone acquainted with me knows that I chose #3. Basically, I was able to
decode most of the Character Data file. This enabled me to modify my
character's stats and inventory. By giving my self the best armor, the best
weapon ('Death Blade'), two rings (regeneration and x-ray), a scroll
(mapping +200), 25 for all six stats, and 200+ maximum hitpoints, I didn't
have much of a problem going down, getting the Orb, defeating the tough guy,
and exiting the dungeon. Now that I've done it illegally, I hope to do it
legally some day. Anyways, if you think I should post what I found out to
the net, send me some mail. If I receive a lot of requests, I'll post what
I've found out.

P.S. I don't know which was more fun, figuring the file's format out, or
     playing the game.
