[net.micro.mac] Motorola requests M68000 instruction statistics

davet@oakhill.UUCP (Dave Trissel) (11/20/85)

Got an hour or two to play around with your Mac?

Motorola is requesting instruction frequency data for the M68000 family. To
that end I have posted an application in net.sources.mac which sets up a table
and code which traces all instructions performed by the next application
launched by the Finder. The program is then reinvoked to store the
table in a file which can be Binhexed and sent back to Motorola.

We would like to obtain statistics from as many widely diverse applications
as possible. Even if you don't have time to send us the results the program
is still fun to play with since it slows down execution by about a 20 to 1
factor and you can watch Quickdraw do its thing in slow motion.

Complete instructions are included in the net.sources.mac file. The program
will only work on a 512k Macintosh (or larger) and will not work on the Lisa,
Macintosh XL or when Switcher is running or Macsbug is installed.
