GREETINGS, I have just finished working with Microsoft Excel for the second four hour session and think I can safely say that the program is pretty slick. It seems to perform as advertised. Some opertations seem to be faster executing. The screens seem to zoom up and down quickly when you double click the title bar, and the recalculation of the spreadsheet is significantly faster than Multiplan. I can't remember any program permitting graphics to be generated as easily from the spreadsheet. Since most of the graphs people generate depend on some sort of spreadsheet data-table, Microsoft permits a very fast copy and paste of such tables into meaningful graphics. Excels's database seems very much like 1-2-3. Once I learn the macros of Excel, I'll be able to report on how powerful the combination is as compared to 1-2-3. Besides being fast, Excel's spreadsheet does several other things right, if not righteously. The ability to delete range names from a 'mini-finder', create tailor-made format screens ("acct nr." 00000 ), control of individual cell text formatting, and a very speedy method of linking information between spreadsheets are some of the more noteworthy features. I could go on a bit mentioning the value-as-displayed feature, and others, but think I'll get off the line now and look at macros.
