[net.micro.mac] Some admittedly biased remarks about MDSMake...

burnard@lll-crg.ARpA (David Burnard) (11/27/85)

I was reminded by my last posting that I should give you a brief
unsolicited reaction to Andrew Shebanow's MDSMake. A UNIX style make
facility for Consulair/MDS/??? compatible development systems.

I was (I think) the first registered user of MDSMake, and I would
heartily recommend it to EVERYONE using MDS or Consulair. It is
perhaps the best thing to come along since warm water.

If you are writing an application of any size at all (where you
will undoubtedly have your source split into a few or many different
files) keeping track of what needs to be recompiled, rerun through
RMaker, or re-assembled is tedious at best, let alone the task of
babysitting your mac until all of the files you modified (did I forget
one???) have been re-whatevered. The EXEC alternative is to redo
everything.

If you are familiar with UNIX-style make programs, the value of
such a program will be familiar to you. If you have never used such a
program, now is the time...give it a try. At $35 (or whatever it is)
it is definitely worth it. Besides he dared you...

I think Andrew also includes the IMLib set of glue and "Pascal
Only" routines from Inside Mac (this library is a must have item for
Consulair). He also has a cute printing utility that puts headers on
your source printouts and allows longer lines to be printed.

The standard disclaimers do not apply. Andrew IS a friend of mine,
but I have no other connection with Hypersoft, except as a satisfied
customer.
