Since I mentioned in this space that MultiMac is available on a local bulletin board, I've been deluged (well, sort of) with requests to post it. Here are some reasons I won't post the version I have: 1. Its copyright status is unclear. It does contain a copyright notice with no further explanation of restrictions on use or distribution. It does not contain the author's address or telephone number. 2. I've never seen it work. On my 1.5M Mac, it bombed immediately. Actually, it *tried* to bomb, but all that came out was a rapidly flickering rectangle. With FEdit, I determined that it has the constant 00080000hex (512K) in several places. Over the weekend, I tried on a 512K Mac at my local Apple dealer. It bombed there, too. 3. I'm dubious about its quality and usefulness. I looked at it with ResEdit. This ~28K program consists of a driver (~27K) and about half-a-dozen other resources (~1K). None of the resources are strings, dialogs, alerts or anything else that would suggest a program that adheres to Apple's development guidelines. With FEdit, I found very few text strings: the author's name (which I've forgotten), the name of his company (Aubrac Systems(?)), and one prompt. No instructions. All this combines to suggest I shouldn't add MultiMac to the clutter in net.sources.mac. If you still want it, call 617-231-2810 with your 1200 baud modem. -- Ephraim Vishniac [apollo, bbncca, cadmus, decvax, harvard, linus, masscomp]!wanginst!vishniac vishniac%Wang-Inst@Csnet-Relay

Due to reports that MultiMac is (will be?) a commercial product, not shareware or PD, the sysop has yanked it from the board. Reports from users, BTW, say that MultiMac is fabulous when it works and devastating when it doesn't. -- Ephraim Vishniac [apollo, bbncca, cadmus, decvax, harvard, linus, masscomp]!wanginst!vishniac vishniac%Wang-Inst@Csnet-Relay
