[net.micro.mac] Write2troff -> NSM soon

darryl@ISM780.UUCP (11/30/85)

OK, it's time to post write2troff again. I will do this in the next few
days, unless somebody says otherwise (e.g., the owner). Although it took
two requests for me to get a copy, I have been besieged with requests to
pass it along (I just received the tenth request). I've sent it out
three times, once to Europe, and I have another request from across the
pond. Obviously, there is a lot of demand for this program.

I'd like to point out that it does NOT give you a WYSIWYG typesetter.
Page boundaries change, tabs are defaulted, nonstandard paragraph starts
don't work correctly, headers and footers are lost, and the translation
is not perfect. Also, it depends upon using the Berkeley -me troff
macros, so SysV people may be out of luck. I'm not carping; the documentation
mentions a lot of these limitations. And, within these limitations, it
does work.

So, either write and tell me you don't really want a copy or why I shouldn't
post it; otherwise, it goes out in a week.

I believe I was one of the people you sent this to. Thanks, I thought
though you might check you archiver, It wouldnt de-archive on two machines
here using /bin/sh, All I got was the README file which contained everything
minus the X's and commands. (I noticed the EOF was weird). Also When
I manually unpacked it and compiled I got two undefined routines. I believe
they are associated with SWAP and the functions are:

I will be posting a fix (hack) for the "hanging indents" problem soon, but I'm
still puzzled by the tabs. I think it may have something to do with -me
maintaining a set of tab settings in another environment, so that the .ta
commands put out by w2t are never "seen". Any -me gurus care to comment?

The last time I posted some fixes to w2troff, several people requested copies
from me. My attempts to reply by mail failed, so I'd like to take the
opportunity to point out that we have to pay for uucp-mail to the USA in
addition to our News subscription, so that while I'd like to send you a copy
of w2troff, I cannot really spend our dept's money this way. I believe that
there are Mac archives at ut-sally and at sumex-aim; if you still cannot get a
copy (and miss the next posting), I'll be glad to send it to you if you send
me a Mac disk + International Reply Coupons (from any Post Office) to cover
the return postage (US$1.50 should cover it unless you're using a heavy duty
mailer). A self-addressed mailer would be much appreciated. People in Europe
can get copies by e-mail on request.

Regards,
