[net.micro.mac] Flight Simulator for the Macintosh

ldr292@uiucuxa.CSO.UIUC.EDU (12/10/85)

It may be true that Sublogic is not publishing their Flight Simulator for the Macintosh until 1986, however there are currently 3 flight simulators already available for the Mac.

First, and my favorite, is Harrier Strike Mission by Miles Computing (who brought us MacAttack). It is an excellent simulation of flying the US Navy most advanced aircraft. You don't just fly but are on a secret mission to destroy all of your enemy's forces on a local island. You must take off from an aircraft crrier (the Harrier is equipt with VSTAL (verical take off and landing). Which makes it easier for those of us who can't fly if our life depended on it.), destroy 5 aircraft and 10 tanks including their hangar and tank garage and even an ammo dump. If you survive this (and with 3 (heat-seeking) sidewinders, 10 flares to avade sidewinders from the enemy and a cannon, it's still hard) then you either land on the island or back on the carrier (worth more points). A very realistic and exciting game.

The other two, which I have only read about and seen demoed are MacChallenger which is a flight simulator of the Space Shuttle, and Fokker Triplane which simulates flying the Fokker. I understand that MacChallenger is not that realistic but that Fokker is.

Hope that was of help to you and anyone else who has been waiting for the Mac's first flight simulator.
