[net.micro.mac] comments on new puiblications MacBriefs and MacPublishing

[ Brief Review of MACBRIEFS, Vol.1 No.1, Oct/Nov 1985, $2.50 ]

I took up their offer for a trial-issue, expecting another "waste of my
time", but I gladly sent my $12 for a 1-year subscription, 6 bimonthly
issues, after reading it.

The 70 plus pages contain few ads, small print of reasonable quality,
with references to articles, reviews, books, news-items, anything about the MAC
classified extensively. brief citations of anything printed, basically.
It's as if someone had read everything in print for you, feeding you the
information as condensed as possible, so you can find what interests you
QUICKLY and EASILY.

MacBriefs, PO Box 2178, Huntington Beach CA 92647 (714)842-0518

The newsletter also contained a free offer for the premier issue of
MacPublishing, a quarterly to appear with Winter 1986 (I expect this to
be *THIS* winter) and I quote:

MacPublishing Quarterly, the How-To Journal for Macintosh publishers.
Creating magazines, newspapers, bulletins, programs, trade journals,
	newsletters ...

	Communicate!
	* More technology is being developed every day.
	* Typesetting is rapidly becoming obsolete.
	* Original Reviews, Editorials on the whole field.
	* Case Studies of new startups and conversions.
	* Tutorials by experts help you get on the fast track.

WHO? Everyone interested in using Macintosh to publish [anything]

4 issues $20 - same address and phone-number as above.

Given that MacBriefs was published using the Mac exclusively (other than the
print master on a Linotronic 100P Imagesetter - at 723/1446 lines per inch!)
I'd expect Taylor Barcroft (Publisher, Editor-in-Chief, and probably owner
of the garage where this is all run out of .. ) knows as much about using
the Mac for publishing as anyone. Look it over, is my recommendation.

Disclaimer: nope, no connections, other than subscriber.

	Cheers, ---Werner

PS: There is, of course, no telling, if the company will be consistent or
even be around for very long. Follow-up opinions are encouraged.
