>From today's Raleigh News and Observer:
OTTAWA (UPI) -- A Canadian task force has concluded that
employees should use video display terminals for no more than
five hours a day, the director of the study said Tuesday. The
task force's report on the impact of modern microelectronic
technology on workers is scheduled for official release Nov. 3.
Tests indicate VDTs emit low levels of radiation but controversies
rage about whether such emissions can cause birth defects. Many
of the estimated 250,000 Canadians using VDTs also report
suffering eye and back strain.

If the Canadian news report was the one I heard sometime last week on CBC radio, the study included 10 (yep, just 10) pregnant women, 3 of whom aborted. The report was careful to state that this was inconclusive since one in ten pregnancies are aborted anyway. Rather a small universe, wasn't it? Curiously, many of us must hack away at terminals for much more than five hours daily, else how would all this stuff get on the net, let alone how would we get any work done? John Winterton.
