For those who own Megamax C or those looking for a compiler... I just called Megamax for some information on their new debugger. It will be out in January (so they say), and is apparently like a multi-window mouse-based dbx. That is, it operates on the source code level. It allows single-stepping, breakpoints, all the traditional debugger things, but by C statement rather than machine instruction. It understands C data structures and let you print and set variables. One neat feature is a C interpreter that lets you type in C statements for convenience in debugging. The price is $99 direct from Megamax; they're not sure if they're going to sell it through dealers (!). I also learned that there was a 2.1b update (fixes to the fixes to 2.1... the guy said they didn't do as much testing as they should have because they didn't think they'd changed very much), and the next update (2.2?) will be out in late January or early February. It will make the C more compatible with the upcoming ANSI C standard. Of course, I have no connection with Megamax except as a very satisfied user of their development system. -- Walter Smith, CS undergraduate, Carnegie-Mellon University uucp: ...!seismo!cmu-cs-k!wrs arpa: wrs@cmu-cs-k.ARPA usps: 5141 Forbes Ave.; Pittsburgh, PA 15213
