When I connected an Imagewriter to a Mac on which Appletalk had been active
and tried to print something: 1) the disk kept spinning forever, 2) the
cursor wouldn't move anymore, 3) nothing was printed.
I started the Mac from a disk with none of the Appletalk drivers on it.
Turning the Mac off didn't help. Running the "choose printer DA", which
indicated an Imagewriter and no Appletalk, didn't help.
Some peeking in the parameter ram showed that the B-port was still
configured for 57 kBaud, 5 bits etc. When I poked the correct values
for the Imagewriter (9600 bd, no parity, 8 bits, 1sb) and rebooted the
Mac everything was back to normal.
Most of our Macs will sometimes be used on Appletalk and sometimes at
home on an Imagewriter. Is there an elegant way of convincing the Mac
that Appletalk has gone. Or do I have to write my own little
dedicated B-port pram poker?
Please enlighten me and our Macs.

I assume you checked the box indicating Appletalk disconnected in the Choose Printer DA, as well as choosing the Imagewriter before saying OK?
