[THe postman hits! --More--] [You have new mail. ] A few weeks ago, I posted an article in which I stated that I was interested in purchasing a game for my Macintosh, and requested reviews, summaries, and endorsements for such. I'd like to thank all who replied; most sent me mail on the subject, and I also spotted a few articles that were posted as followups. Several people included a request for a summary along with their endorsement, and several others said that they didn't have any games and just wanted to see the summary themselves! And so, by popular demand, here's a bare-bones summary of responses: THE WINNER: A TIE between the "Wizardry" series and "Balance of Power". Most people who voted for Wizardry couldn't say enough about it -- that it omitted the boring typing from text adventures, that it was like no other computer game, that they never got tired of playing. Balance of Power was somewhat of a surprise to me -- I had read the reviews in GAMES magazine, but I was never convinced that it would be much fun until I saw the enthusiasm of the net responders. SECOND PLACE: Another TIE, this time between the "ULTIMA" series and "Gato". It was pointed out that one need not play the Ultimas from beginning to end, and the votes were divided between Ultima II and Ultima III for "best of the series". Gato, a submarine warfare game, was surprisingly popular. Other games receiving votes: (in no particular order) Sargon III Enchanted Scepters Pinball Construction Set Rogue Deadline It seems odd that there are so few games mentioned (9 in all) but that should give you an indication of how strong the votes were for Wizardry and Balance of Power. (Between them, they captured roughly 40% of the votes!) I might add that since I posted the request, I've purchased a copy of "Suspended" by Infocom (which didn't even receive a vote -- how embarrassing!) because I found it on sale for $19 (original price $59.95). Although it's another text adventure game, it's a little different from some of the others since the emphasis is not on mapping (they PROVIDE the map) but on problem-solving. Still nothing new, but for what it cost me, it'll keep me occupied until I can find Wizardry or Balance of Power for a good price! Thanks again for all who participated.
