[net.micro.mac] *WARNING*, *WARNING*, *WARNING* about rebuilding the HD20's desktop!

Being somewhat concerned about the time it takes for the Mac to display the
desktop each time the Finder comes up, and based upon inferences in the
HD20 manual, an article in MacUser, and my own expectations, I attempted to
clean things up by having the Mac rebuild the desktop file (now 163,840
bytes!) by booting with the COMMAND-OPTION keys held down.

All went well, BUT DURING THE REBUILD THE SYSTEM *CRASHED* WITH A BOMB=02.

When I attempted a restart, it gave me the "...disk needs minor repair..."
dialog box. If you say NO, it does a restart. When I then said YES, it
attempted another rebuild and SUBSEQUENTLY CRASHED AGAIN WITH BOMB=02!

Hence, I'll be reloading all of my software (all 17.5 Megabytes, sigh!!!).

So, until we can get some kind of an explanation, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
REBUILD THE DESKTOP OF THE HD20 USING FINDER 5.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A sad Jeff...
