Since everyone seems to be talking calendars, here's an interesting tidbit. Seems that Halloween, the Eve of All Hallows Day, was placed on an older holiday, like many other religious holidays. In this case, All Saints (or All Hallows) day is on November first, which is the Druidic new year. I don't know how the mapping was made to match it to Gregory's calendar. Halloween was also a Druidic holy day, called Samhain, reputedly after one of the Druid gods.
