[net.micro.mac] Wizardry1 back-ups

perelgut@utai.UUCP (Stephen Perelgut) (01/09/86)

I just purchased Wizardry1 (based on good reviews) and I now discover
that you can't back-up the MASTER diskette. In fact, the game is designed
so that you play off a SCENARIO diskette, only inserting the MASTER once
at the beginning. I can use MacTool and CopyIIMac to make SCENARIO versions,
but nothing I have seems to show any difference between the SCENARIO and
MASTER diskette. I would really prefer to lock my originals away under plastic
and use pseudo-masters. Then I feel "safe".
	1) How do I make a back-up MASTER?
	2) How did SIr-Tech manage to create such a tough file protection?

Please specify which version of Copy II Mac (and any other software you
refer to) when describing problems, questions, etc.

We can save several hundred bytes sent all around the world if everyone
does this.

Regarding backup problems: specify CopyII version used (4.5 is current as
of a few days ago), and techniques used.

These are two of the great puzzles of those involved in
"Interactive Archival Expansion".

There a variety of backup programs available. Many give you the option of
setting certain parameters (track width, nibble-count-p, etc.).

There is published a list of what parameters go with what games. What backup
programs do you have? Maybe I (or someone else out there) has the correct
parameters for it.

Also check on the hacker's net.

Good luck.

If i remember correctly (for the apple version) all you have to do is to
syncronize the tracks and do a nibble count (automatic has its advantages).
