*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** Dear Net, This one is pretty good. It concerns the use of MacProject and MacDraw from the 20 mb Hyperdrive. Both these programs have a feature that sets the size of the chart or drawing. It is a dialog box with a rectangle separated into squares. One square is the default size (8.5 x 11). By clicking additional squares you can make the chart or drawing larger than a page (they must then be taped together). The problem is that when these packages (not protected) are executed from the hard disk, the size rectangle is separated into very thin vertical lines instead of the normal squares. This makes it real tough to set an appropriate size. My drawers (sorry) are set up with a system file in startup and these two programs in another drawer. I think I may be missing some sort of secret resource on my hyper that is on both the MacDraw and MacProject disks. Thanx 3.1415926 for any assistance. Sam Mantel -- Roch, NY

It is not good enough to simply have a system with an imagewriter or laserwriter on it and Project/Draw on another mounted volume. You MUST have a print driver on the same disk since Project/Draw change the page size you see depending on the print drive and whatever you have done during page setup. For laserWriters Draw defaults to a 7.5 x 10 in page, and for imagewriters the defaults is 8 x 10 in. Note that if you go to 50% reduction in imagewriter during page setup or some variable percentage in laserwriter the page size shown on Draw/Project will change. Similary, if you change from landscape to protrait or vice-versa you will see your layout change, that is you first clue of the communication going on. I wish that Draw/Project were smart enough to search the system (i.e. all mounted volumes) but it seems only the application's volume gets searched. I hope this helps; it seemed to cure my problems. MacDraw, at least, really, really wants to get things right and asks the print manager how big the paper is. If you don't have any printer resource files loaded up (ImageWriter or LaserWriter), it will get very confused. I suspect MacProject is the same way. -- -- Clayton Elwell Elwell@Ohio-State.CSNET Elwell%Ohio-State@CSNET-RELAY.ARPA ...!cbosgd!osu-eddie!elwell
