    PREFERRED MEMORY SIZS FOR MS-PROGRAMS UNDER SWITCHER
    =====================================================

(from MS-Excel Switcher manual)

CHART       192K
EXCEL       304-512K
FILE        288K
MULTIPLAN   160K
WORD        160K

[these values may or may not be correct for the latest program updates - Werner]

    HYPERDRIVE PROBLEMS
    ====================

- with WORD: seem to get cured when disabling disk-caching

- if you're having trouble with an application on the HyperDrive-20, try
  booting from the HyperDrive floppy disk. This will give you a normal-sized
  system heap, instead of the special, extra-large one. If you make a lot of
  changes to your System, or other things in your Startup drawer, it may pay off
  to back it up, delete the drawer, recreate it, and restore the files - this
  will optimize the drawer. If your HyperDrive won't start up and you then
  start it from a floppy and get a message that tells you "the only function
  you may execute at this point is 'Format'" - DON'T BELIEVE IT. You may be
  able to recover by simply restarting or by replacing your System file.

- with ManX C: both companies have work-arounds. call them.

- new toll-free number for GCC: 1-800-422-0101.

- Apple's MiniFinder "currently" doesn't work with HyperDrive-20. Backup is
  buggy. We got around other, inconsistent problems by replacing the System
  file or the application (e.g. Spooler Install) and also running Disk Test
  from the Manager. Always keep 1 or 2 MegaBytes free, otherwise, Backup
  (and possibly other programs) display problem symptoms.

    WRITE-PROTECT SWITCH DOESN'T PROTECT
    ====================================

[ the hardware is not disabled, i.e. a software command can order the hardware
  to ignore the detector indicating the WRITE-PROTECTION. I take this to
  mean that a run-away program could, accidentally, trash a disk. No such
  disaster has been reported yet, but then again, why would you suspect that
  a "bad disk" is caused by this unless repetition can be detected and
  demonstrated ??!! ]

    LASER-WRITER ENVELOPES
    =======================

If you need to print an envelope with the LaserWriter do the following:

- choose Landscape mode (in Page Setup)
- set the left margin at 5 inches
- type the address 1 inch from the bottom of the page
- print using manual feed
- wait for orange light on LaserWriter to come on steady
- feed the envelope, left hand narrow side first, facing up

    LOCK DOWN THAT FINDER
    ======================

useful, especially, with RAMdisk or Winnie. To do this, use FEdit
(note that this will only work with Finder-4.1):

- open up the Finder
- display sector in hex
- search in hex for 6738594F
- turn hex modify on
- change the 67 to a 60 on the screen
- write sector to file
