[net.micro.mac] FastEddie2 - known bugs, and how to upgrade

werner@ut-ngp.UUCP (Werner Uhrig) (02/13/86)

For those that asked me about how to get upgrades:

I called Daniel about this, and he says that the upgrade to the latest
version can be requested from
Cottage Software, Box 200308, Austin TX 78720-308

upgrade costs $15 for those with FastEddie (the early version), $11 for those
with FastEddie2 - currently latest version is 2.3.

I also asked about known bugs, so people don't feel the need to report them,
and he indicated that the version 2.2 which I had posted, "hangs in the second
window when doing a 'global change all'", but that the current version 2.3
fixes that.

Otherwise, there is the problem of all programs compiled with Megamax, that
cause the SkipFinder-5.3 to hang (but Darin just tells me that SkipFinder
6.0 will be posted in the next few days, which does handle that problem,
and which handles HFS also). I try to remember to use the Transfer command
instead of Quit, but keep forgetting about it, so I asked Daniel today if
he could provide the ability to disable the Quit-command.

FastEddie2 can't handle hard-tabs without converting them to blanks, but that
FastEddie2 comes with a little program "tabs_out" which is a utility to
convert from blanks to tabs and vice-versa. Only the developer's editor
Edit seems to be able to handle tabs "right", and that only because it
does not use the standard text-handling routines (I was told).

What I consider the most glaring problem, is that FastEddie does not work
with the Clipboard, but I hope to be able to help Daniel find out how to
fix that problem soonest (as it bothers me considerably)

	Cheers, ---Werner

PS: FastEddie is now called FastEddie2, as the early version was considerably
rewritten - this was pointed out to me today, a finer point I had
not paid any attention to. Sorry.
