PP&M probably had no psychodelic intentions.

Lennon swore that one day his kid showed him a drawing and John said,
"What's that?" to which the kid responded "Lucy in the sky w/ diamonds."
The fact that the title of the eventual song can be abbreviated 'LSD'
probably means as much as Paul's bare feet on the cover of Abbey Road.
Despite all the "evidence," Paul would seem to be alive and well today.
Now, as for his compositional talent...

The Marx Bros. also got fed up with pedants reading things into their work.
Groucho denied any deep symbolism about class struggle and the decadent
upper class. They did stuff because it was funny, despite their communist
last name.

All hail Marx and Lennon!

One of my old English profs used to "see" all sorts of meanings in such
literary descriptions of things as simple as a kid's red "Radio Flyer" wagon!
I guess as long as people will listen, there'll be those to fill the ears.
