At present, MacWrite 4.5 does not allow the printing of high quality MacPaint pasteins from within a Macwrite document. What happens when 'High Quality' is chosen is that Macwrite text is printed by two passes of the imagewrite r printhead, but MacPaint pasteins only get one pass, why is this? Can the problembe over come by programming the printer. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. Perhaps a later version of MacWrite will allow this facility. I find this problem especially annoying as I bought my Mac primarilary for writing reports with lots of graphics. Apple Australia espouse the greatness of the Macspaste in ability, but fail to tell you that you cant get a high quality final report from it. I have been offered the use of an Apple laserwriter, will that fix my MacWrite-MacPaint problems? or do I have to continue to cutout and paste (really!) with real scissors and tape my Macpaint documents into my reports. (Not much Hi-Tech there!). Ps: What is the rest of the world doing about this? Please complain to you local Apple distributer as I have and we may get some action. PPs:I have a 512k Mac, pre-MacPLUS. MS Word does the same thing on the Imagewriter. I think a LaserWriter will do a better job, but using MacDraw for LaserWriter graphics produces the best results (so I heard, no experience here with a LaserWriter). I think this is because MacPaint pics are just bitmaps at the Mac's screen resolution, while MacDraw PICT docs contain more object attribute info. I think that when MacPaint prints on high quality, it uses it's own builtin driver (I know the old version of MacPaint didn't need the Imagewriter driver on it's disk, although the new one complains if it's not there). It used it's own magic to mimic a higher dot density of the Imagewriter. Tim (Now that I wrote this, I'll have to try pasting a MacDraw PICT into Word and see if it looks better on the ImageWriter. I doubt it...)

MacDraw pics do indeed come out much better in MacWrite (and I presume WORD).
What's more you can resize them without distortion (up to a point). But
the screen gets a bit screwy when scrolling or paging with MW 4.5 if you have
text in the pict, but do not have the appropriate font(s) installed. (This can
happen if you're looking at a file created on another Mac.)
I don't have my copy of Inside Mac to hand, but I believe the reason bitmaps
aren't printed "high-res" has something to do with the IW driver's defaulting
to "bit-thining" to avoid a smudged picture.
