I'd like to hear about any program that uses data compression to speed up the effective speed of a modem link. I've seen such a program inoperation on the IBM pc. It uses the Lempl-Ziv adaptive data compression algorithm and can turn your 1200 baud modem into a 9600 baud line (depending on the text stream). It works by having a compression and decompression program at each end. Is there something like MacTerminal that does this? Does it talk to a Unix system, or have the source code for a filter at the other end?
