[net.micro.mac] Lots of things are compatible with HFS

I don't think all that many programs are going to be incompatible with the new
ROMs ( & HFS). The programs listed in a previous message were an unfair
selection. Naturally you can't expect disk utilities to work with HFS as-is.
Anyway, all those programs are being re-written. Already Copy II Mac 5.0 is
out, and it's a nice job. It fully supports HFS. Also, Copy II Mac HD patches,
among other things, Ecxel from Microsoft. Works very well.

Another program that was mentioned as incompatible was Switcher. It just ain't
so. Switcher 2.6 was available for HFS ON THE DATE that the mac+ was
introduced. Andy Hertzfeld was giving out copies at the show.

Pagemaker 1.1 also works fine with HFS. Like some program, it can get confused
by scattered files (in different folders), but a new update is coming in march
for free and will correct that problem.

The popular desk accessory DiskInfo is already out in an HFS-compatible, more
capable form. It was posted on net.mac.sources recently.

Lastly, I've got a beta of MacServe. It's wonderful!!! It shows that Appletalk
isn't fast enough for intensive remote disk access (about floppy speeds or a
little worse) but it's really good for other things... I do wish it could
back up single files without having to do an entire volume, though.
