I just bought a FANNY MAC, which for those of you who haven't heard of it before, is an ingenious cooling fan which fits into the cavity on the top of the mac where the handle is. If you look inside the handle you will see that there actually is a vent for cooling inside there. The FANNY MAC fits into this space and blends in to the extent that people who you show it to think that it came with the Mac (Same colour and fits flush with the top). The device contains a lighted power switch that allows you to turn your mac off and on from the top rather than the back. The unit replaces the current power cord (power passes from wall to FANNY to mac) and at the same time has a built in surge protector for those of you who have lost files due to power transients. An interesting side track to this unit results from the noise that it gives off. Many people like the mac because it is so quite compared to other noisy computers. The FANNY MAC gives off a smooth WHOOSHING sound which resembles the sound your car heater fan makes. The neat thing is that this sound is basically white noise. If you are working in an environment where there is a lot of constant noise (office machine, T.V., your mother....etc) you will find that the white noise produced by the unit fuzzes out this racket and allows you to work peacefully (this is along the same lines as why they put white noise generators in open plan offices to deaden the noise produced by other people). If you don't like white noise...oh well. The best point about the unit is its ability to replace the air in the mac about 28 times a minute. I have found that the frequency of system bombs seems to increase as the room and the mac get really high. As soon as the Fan was put in these problems ceased. So those of you with heat problems should seriously look at FANNY MAC. (Cost me $149 CAN).
