[net.micro.mac] A Crash-recover program...

harrow@exodus.DEC (Jeff Harrow, NCSE LKG1-3/F16 DTN=226-7445) (03/13/86)

I thought I had recently seen an article indicating a program
which could be installed into the System so that a RESUME
procedure would get you back to the Finder if you hit a Bomb.

I had believed that this was the CrashSaver program, but it
appears that you must run that one each time you startup (and I
currently have Keeper (GREAT!!!!!! for HD20s!!!) in that exalted
position.

Can anyone point me to the correct RESUME resource for this
purpose?

Thanks,

Jeff

What you need here is an INIT resource that installs the Exit_To_Shell patch.

I'll post two versions of this to net.sources.mac: 'Resume' just makes the
Resume button black, and works. 'Reg Error Box' gives a list of all the
register contents, as well as a 'Finder' button. The Finder button works
like the 'Resume' button does.

Although I think they work the same way, I have both installed (otherwise the
Resume button on the Reg Error Box is gray) and have found a few cases where
one worked and the other didn't. Since these situations are usually hard to
reproduce (:-)) I haven't determined once and for all whether there is a
difference.

To install these resources, use ResEd to open the file from the net, copy the
INIT resource in it, open your System file, and Paste. You don't even have
to open the INITs in the System--ResEd is smart about this.

Hope this helps people--I have been using these for a long time and find them
very useful. I got them originally from a San Diego BBS.

There is another program which I think does about the same thing. It's
called BombShelter. It's in [SUMEX-AIM.ARPA]<INFO-MAC>UTILITY-BOMBSHELTER.HQX.

If you have ftp access to SUMEX, you could get it that way. if it hasn't
already been posted to net.sources, and there is interest, I'll repost it
here.
