I am trying to find a place that will do a ROM + Disk Drive upgrade for less than the list price. I've called about six dealers in the NYC area, but they all want list price. I know these guys have some margin to work with, the NYMUG has arranged a deal with one dealer to perform this upgrade for about 30% off. However that dealer resolutely told me that he wouldn't even give me 1% off, since I'm not a NYMUG member. Upon further questioning, I found out he wouldn't do my upgrade for any price because I have a third party 512K upgrade, not an Apple upgrade. (Other dealers are willing to do the ROM/Disk upgrade on clone 512K boards.) Are any mail order places doing the dealer upgrades el cheapo, or are any of the mac upgrade houses (Bechtech (sp??), Levco, etc.) in this biz? It pains me to pay list price for anything. I wish Apple had priced the upgrades a little steeper, and then told their dealers to give everyone 20% off :*). Nobody in NYC pays list. Was it Woody Allen who philosophized "Never pay retail"? I'd hate to join a nice organization like NYMUG for the crass reason of saving a few bucks, and the entrance fee would reduce my savings anyway. Besides, I don't want to join any organization that would allow me to be a member. Reply directly, and if any good tips arrive I'll summarize. Kaare Christian cmcl2!rna!kc
