Pardon my naivete and other foolish-sort-of-dumb-question-asking-attitudes... but I DON'T own a Mac, I just have to use one to put together the school newspaper... I want to know about upgrades. Now, someone posted something to the effect that he was dealing with a stone-age CrudeMac (e.g., upgraded to 512K , has a 400K drive, has a 64K ROM chip.) This fits the description of the machine I work with. It's got two 400K drives, and they aren't enough to hold anything useful. I updated my system to whatever was on the Macintosh Plus at the local author- ized Apple dealer. It's Finder 5.1, but I don't know what System version it is (deathly 3.0.0 or kindly 3.0.1?) How do I find out? Our bootup disk contains nothing but System. Nothing else fits. I tried deleting fonts with Mover, and the fonts went all right. The disk didn't free up any space, though. What might have happened? As a matter of fact, anything I put on the disk (small, of course) and then deleted wouldn't free up ANY room. What is ResEdit? Is it public-domain or not? In any case (since everyone and his brother seems to have it except me) where can I get it? What kind of upgrades can I get for not-too-much-$$$ that you'd [<generic- UseNet-community>] think of as useful? That 128K ROM upgrade? An 800K drive upgrade? (how much is that?) A 512 to 1Meg upgrade (what good does that do?) What kind of hard disks can I get for this thing? -- Any answers deeply appreciated. Please respond to the UseNet addresses below.
