My LAST posting on the subject of MacVenture's external RAMdisk product: I have now seen the device in operation, and its speed is indeed in the same order of magnitude as a straight memory-based RAMdisk! Without doing a very careful stopwatch timing, I couldn't tell the difference. It appears to be a well-built device, and the operation interface (configuration program, boot program, and external power indicators) appear to be well thought-out. -Brian Diehm Tektronix, Inc. I fail to see the attraction of external ramdisks. For only a little more money you can get internal memory that can be used as a ramdisk or as program memory. Also, the next crop of hard disk drives that will hook up to the SCSI port will be cheap and fast enough to kill any advantage the external ramdisk has in terms of speed or backup in case of program error. -steve
