I've received permission to post a Beta-prerelease to net.sources.mac to reduce the suffering ... please heed the warnings below ... ------------ (caveat from the author of the port to Mac of uEmacs)---------- I have to admit I have real mixed feelings about this [ distributing the program in its present stage] and would discourage doing this, as I don't feel it is ready for a mass distribution. On the other hand, because of other commitments, I really don't have the time right now to get it to a state that I consider reasonable in the short term. Text editors have to be absolutely reliable or people don't use them. For that reason I don't use microEMACS for my development work and I would urge caution to others using it. It seems to largely work, but it certainly has not been heavily tested. I would also appreciate it if you would do me a favor and not mention to the networks my name and that I have been working on this. I don't think I'm up to all the complaints and the inherent pressure from this to find time to work on it. By the way, I know of at least one other rehosting of this same software, although I'm not sure about its state of completion at this time and I'm not sure about the author's interest in distribution. If you have any suggestions or complaints about the software I would like to hear them. ---------- ( end of author's comments - back after a commercial ) -------- In order get a *BETTER* program *SOONER*, a netwide cooperative effort is given serious consideration. On the other hand, I would not be surprised if several independent ports are already well underway.
