[ Cheer up! Life is temporary! ] After about a year's wait, Jean-Michel Jarre has come out with another album, this one called ZOOLOOK. What can I say about it? It's different. By this, I mean that it's almost nothing like his previous albums (Oxygene, Equinoxe, Les Chants Magnetiques, Les Concerts En Chine [are there any others, other than Music for a Supermarket? I want them all!!! - : ) ] ). This album makes use of electronically enhanced voices 'from speech and song.' According to the album sleeve, just about every language under the sun can be heard in the voices. On top of these voices (or sometimes below) Jarre has layered several ethereal tracks with his usual style and flair (but I don't meanthat these tracks are re-hashes of old ones--they are new!!!). Sometimes (especially in the second part of the first piece, "Ethnicolor") his idea/technique/innovation/whatever works very well (I think), but others just seem to lack something (I haven't played it enough yet to decide what). Recommendations: If you like Jarre and want to hear something a little different, give this album a try. Don't expect another Oxygene though. If you've never heard Jarre before, try the earlier albums (and it's probably wisest to hear them in the above order, too!). "CG" Conville University of Waterloo, Waterloo Ont. The reason I bought this (Jean Michel Jarre ZOOLOOK) is because Laurie Anderson and Adrian Belew were credited with playing on it. It is somewhat different for JMJ with the vocals/voices, which seemed to be influenced by Laurie A. I've only listened once, and am anxious to sit down with it again. -----------------------------------------------------
