[net.micro.mac] Is there a Disk Compactor?

jdm@ut-ngp.UUCP (Jim Meiss) (04/30/86)

Recently I noticed that some of my more regularly used disks
have lots of space taken up by file fragmentation....e.g
the sum of the file sizes can be 50k smaller than the amount
used up on the disk (I take all the invisible files into account).

Of course, one can copy the files onto a blank disk and get the 50k
back, but this is a tedious procedure to have to do...e.g. find
a blank disk and move all the files.

Has anyone written a disk compactor, which grabs all the files on the
disk, loads them into memory, then rewrites the disk compactly? This
should work on a 512 in one pass one would think. How about it??
