This is poorly documented in both Microsoft's manual and an allegedly helpful book on the subject (published by Microsoft Press, which may be the problem). I swore at this one for a year after buying my MS-Word. Finally, I found the trick--make sure that the location of the running head is within the page heading. I don't have the stuff in front of me, but the heading must be less inches from the top than the top margin is high. If in doubt, exaggerate (.5" and 2", respectively) until you get it where you want it. -- Joel West (619) 457-9681 CACI, Inc. Federal, 3344 N. Anyone who wants to use MS Word should take a look at this. Tim

In the May issue of MacUser there is a good article on some of the poorly documented but very powerful features of MS Word. I would recommend it to anyone (like me) who has a general grasp of Word but can't always get it to do just what you want. It explains not only how do do some things, but what the program thinks it is doing, thus making it much easier to set up your document to have it come out as you would like.
