[net.micro.mac] Fortran on the Mac

milo@ndmath.uucp (Greg Corson) (04/04/86)

Does anyone know of a good Fortran compiler that is available on the Mac and
that is compatable with the Mac+? I am trying to port a large graphics program
written in fortran to the Mac and need a decent compiler. Hopefully one which
can be used with a hard disk. Full toolbox support is not required, as long
as there is some way to get graphics up on the screen.

I do believe that Microsoft has a full featured Compiler for Fortran.
Check with an Apple dealer or a Good MAC store in your area..

YES, MS Fortran V2.2 is VERY GOOD!!! I have written a 13000 line plus
program in it. It is full ANSI F77 compatible with extensions like SELECT/CASE
DO/REPEAT/CYCLE etc. It was written by ABSOFT. It supports MOST (400+) toolbx
calls, and any others can be done in assembler if needed.

It takes care of opening the first window, like a 'glass tty', so mainframe
programs should run without mods. It does the SIEVE benchmark in 6.13 secs.

I think it is great.

I have also read about the Absoft Fortran compiler. It has a fairly
detailed description in the September 1985 issue of MacTutor.

Previous messages refer to the Absoft Fortran compiler and the Microsoft
Fortran compiler. The Microsoft product originates with Absoft - the
copyright notices are (c) Microsoft Corporation 1985, (c) Absoft Corporation
1983, 1984, 1985.

I have both compilers (yes, they are legal; no, I didn't pay for both) and
they appear to be different versions (as in version 99.4) of the same compiler.
