[net.micro.mac] HELP!

royt@gatech.CSNET (Roy M Turner) (07/09/85)

Hey all you communications hackers out there! I have access to a couple
of Symbolics lisp machines, including telnet access from my Mac via Unix.
Now, the question: do any of you know of any programs that allow Mac
to use the X3.64 control codes that the lisp machines use? I am getting
tired of the Mac emulating a dumb terminal. Thanks in advance.

Help!
I keep seeing messages about all this wonderful software being posted to
net.sources.mac but when I look there is nothing! Is this because they
are failing to cross the Atlantic to the UK.

Whatever the reason can anybody post them direct to me or explain why I am
not getting them and a possible solution for the future.

                     Yours in gratitude,

                          John

To prevent a flood of responses, I'm making an open reply.

Your site ( iclbra ) requested that certain newsgroups were not forwarded,
to reduce their storage requirements, and to keep down their PSS costs. If
you feel that you are missing out please contact your site news administrator
first before crying to the net. If you don't know who this is I'll let you
know. I have this year's news archived, so in the event of something earth-
shattering being lost I expect we can get it back locally.

Many thanks to the people who replied to my message requesting help
in explaining why I was having problems in obtaining stuff from
	net.sources.mac.

I have now found out why I was having problems. Without informing anyone	our site has unsubscribed to net.sources.mac. No wonder I couldn't get
	anything!!

No effort will be spared in reversing this terrible act!!!!

Here is a strange problem I encountered with my one week old Mac+. One
of the first things I did was to install the programmers switch, and try
out the mini-debugger. Great! I could return to the Finder with a simple
`G 40F6D8`... But after two days (I only had to use it once) it STOPPED
WORKING! The only thing that happens is that the mouse freezes up...!
So I removed the switch and tried pushing with a screw driver: same result.
I tried booting with different disks, but it just wouldn`t work anymore..
I remember reading some messages, but all were implying that the switch was
incorrectly mounted, which I really don't think is the case here...

Does anybody have any suggestion?

Well, well well... I tried my interrupt key again tonight, and (you've
probably guessed it) it works again. Every time! The only thing I did
was post the previous article!! I really don't understand. Has anybody
else had similar experiences.

I should add to my previous message that I tried many things last night:
booting from different disks, cache on and off, appletalk on and off,
keeper "on" and "off", different Systems and Finders (3.1 and 3.1.1; 5.1
and 5.2). And now - all of a sudden - my Mac bombed (I was trying to get
Experlisp 1.04 to run on the Mac+; does it work on the Mac+?), and I
thought I'd just give it another try.

I wish I could find the cause of this strange behavior. What does it depend
on? Any suggestions? The various messages I have seen on this subject,
suggest that there is quite some confusion. Does anybody have some more
detailed information?
