[net.micro.mac] Got to be a better way

*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESS! ***

Presently I have only one way to download (and reassemble) programs that have
been posted to the net. this is it:

1. save the messages using w(rite) in vnews
2. download these programs to my mac using Kermit or Xmodem
3. put the pieces back together and edit the sinatures etc. out.
4. binhex back into either the original file
5. (un)Packit if needed

Now the problems:

1. With only 400K drives on a 512K files such as the recent posting of RedRyder
8.0 just dont fit!(over 460K even if I do the editing and combining on the
VAX) Thus I can't Binhex, or unPackIt it(them).
2. This process takes way to much time, disk space, and program swapping. I do
have a few classes this quarter, and my Girlfriend is about to throw my Mac
out the window. (by the way she wants a PacMan type game any out there?)

I know a little about xbin, macput, macget but don't have even the most archaic
copies. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who would be willing to send me
copies of these with some form of documentation. However would this solve the
problem, isn't the file still larger then 400K after xbining?

I don't know exactly how xbin,macput/get work, but I would think that it
would be even easier to have a unix program to convert binhex4 format into
MacBinary format files so they can be downloaded right into their respective
aplications/documents etc using RedRyder, MacTerminal, Freeterm or whatever.

I should be upgrading to 800k drives & new roms soon, but it would still be
nice to have the vax do some of the work for me. Also there are others around
here with the same problems. Any help out there?????? At least keep things
under 400K.

I just hope I havn't said anything to stupid! |:<)
