Does anybody out there know what has happened to Yusef Lateef???? This fine tenor sax, flute and oboe player comes from Detroit, was with Cannonball Adderley. After that he made a fine series of LPs on the Impulse and Atlantic labels. This takes us into the early 70s Since then, nothing that I know of. Is this man still alive. If so, is he still playing? Yusef Lateef got a Ph.D. in music in the early seventies (I believe). He supposedly teaching music somewhere. Two possible places are U. of Indiana where the ex-trombonist and cellist David Baker head a fine music program that focuses on jazz and contemporary composition, and the U. of Wisconsin at Madison where (the last I heard) the Bassist Richard Davis was helping to organize a similar program. -- michael fehling --
