I received two responses to my previous posting regarding problems with the interrupt switch. The two people who replied said they had traced the problem back to their Apple modems. One had a modem 1200, the other the Personal modem (the one you plug in the wall). Both said they had en- countered similar problems as I had (i.e., only a frozen mouse after depressing the interrupt switch, no mini-debugger), but ONLY when their modems were connected and powered on. Since I have an Apple modem 1200 too, I checked the interrupt switch with modem on and off (leaving the cables in place). With the modem off everything worked fine, but when I turned it on there was no way I could get the mini-debugger! So that seems to be the problem. Does anybody else have this problem with other modems? What could it be, that causes this annoying behavior? My Mac+ is connected through its modem port to a terminal server which is in turn connected to an Ethernet, yet I have the same problem with the interrupt switch as has been reported. If I use the printer port instead of the modem port to talk to the Ethernet, the interrupt works fine. If you really need to use the debugger at the same time as your modem, switch to the printer port. But be warned that the printer port is not recommended for modem communications. I hope that this problem is in the ROM software so that it can fixed with a patch in a future System file. If it's in the hardware, we'll probably never see it corrected. -- -------------------- David Fay GTE Laboratories Waltham, MA 02254 harvard!bunny!daf1

When you hit the interrupt switch, it looks for an external terminal to talk to? Although I have a Plus, I don't (yet) have any mini-8 connectors so I can't try this out. Perhaps documentation will be in the 'March' supplement. For now, I'd say the fix is to keep Macsbug installed, since it doesn't have this problem. Ephraim Vishniac decvax!wanginst!wang!ephraim
