I'm setting up a computer literacy course for non-CS University students. The lab part of the course will give students experience with the most important application types on Macintosh computers. I'm trying to decide exactly what software to use for the lab. A year ago, the decision would have been easy: MacWrite, MacPaint, Multiplan, MacTerminal, ThinkTank, and a data base. Now there are so many choices that it's hard to make the final decision. I'm weighing price against quality against ease of learning against projected lifespan, and I'm having trouble picking a clear winner. The final decision may come down to Microsoft (powerful) vs Lotus (affordable). I'd appreciate your advice and comments if you've got relevant experience or ideas.
