The people in a graphics studio at this University have some requirements for a graphing program that Microsoft Chart fails to meet. They *need* the following: Separated axes (i.e. if the minimum X and Y values are not both zero, the axes shouldn't quite meet: 10| * | 5| * | * 0| __________________ 1984 1985 1986 The ability to specify the symbol to be used to plot each series, and to design the symbol if the desired one is not in the palette; A choice of tick marks on the axes, either crossing or butting onto them: | -| | or | + | *Even* line thicknesses when printed on a LaserWriter (if you don't understand this, try printing a line graph with one segment at around 45 degrees, and another roughly horizontal); A legend that is *not* enclosed by a box, but *is* of the form *--* H2SO4 #--# HCl (not -*- as Chart produces) I know these are very specific, but they are considered essential to meet either accepted standards, house style, or plain ol' good design. Any suggestions would be gratefully received, and I will post a summary as there has been little discussion of this subject.
