HELP! Answer me this, Is there any way to redirect output which would normally go to the Apple laserwriter into a file? I have a Macintosh at home, and a Laserwriter at work (connected to a UNIX machine, not a Mac), and I would like to work on stuff at home on my Mac, then send it via modem to the Unix machine at work to print on the Laserwriter. Am I right in assuming that what is sent between the Mac and the laserwriter is plain ascii text (Postscript)? If not, I could do a binhex before 'modem'ing to the machine at work, then un-binhex when it gets there. I would assume that the way this would be done is to have a 'dummy' laserwriter printer driver (when choosing printer) which would behave just like the normal laserwriter driver, except that the output would go to a file instead of out the appletalk port. (how big would the file be anyway?). If the output *IS* postscript, then looking at the file would be interesting also. Thanks in advance, It may be that there is already a way to do this which I have overlooked. I have only started looking at the laserwriter documentation today. And I havent even installed the laserwriter driver on any of my system disks yet. I didn't see anything in the documentation to help me with what I'm trying to do. Please post or mail, There may be others who are interested in this also. OOOOOPPPS, After looking around in the oldnotes on this machine, I notice that somebody else has asked the same very question! It looks like the answer to the problem is to go COMMAND-F while selecting print and that will put it to a file called 'postscript' rather than sending it out on appletalk. How intuitive!, I should have known. Is there anymore to it than that? - - just send the file called 'postscript' to the printer, and it should work, -OR- is there some kind of initialization that needs to be done first. Again, thanks in advance. - - sorry to ask a question which has been asked before. Larry McWilliams labsms!lmm
