I've just gotten my 512k Mac upgraded to a Mac+ and have some answers and questions. 1. Reset Switch. As is, it sticks in too deep and holds the switch in the closed position. Trimming about one millimeter off it did the trick. 2. Adaptor Cable. This worked fine with my ImageWriter, but not with my Novation 103/212 SmartCat modem. I wired up a separate cable for that and had to switch the TXD and RXD lines. I ended up using three lines DIN8#3 - DB25#2, DIN8#4 - DB@25#7, and DIN8#5 - DB25#3. I should have wired the shield (DIN8 shield - DB25#1), but didn't. Does anyone have any information on this cabling discrepancy? I'd found a lot of discrepancies among the various cable descriptions that have been posted. 3. Software. I received Finder 5.3 and System 3.2; both seem ok so far. MacWrite 4.5, MacDraw 9997B (!!), and MacKermit 0.8(34) seem to be working well, even with large MacWrite and MacDraw documents. And now my questions: 1. Disk Cache. What are the interactions between the Disk cache and a RAM disk? In particular, is stuff from the RAM disk cached or only stuff from an actual disk? 2. Switcher. I have Switcher 4.4. It bombs when I use Kermit 0.8(34) and try to load a new settings file. 3. Memory Configuration. Does anyone have any suggestions on configuring memory with applications, documents, etc. For the time being I've settled on having my main applications and the system files in a large RAM disk, cache turned off, and documents on a double-sided disk in the internal drive. 4. The Erase Disk function only gives you a choice of formatting single- sided with MFS or double-sided with HFS. There's supposed to be a key you hold down during single-sided formatting to make it use HFS; does anyone know what it is? Thanks in advance. I hope this helps someone.
