[net.micro.mac] bug in *new* system software

cam2@ur-tut.UUCP (Craig McGowan) (06/17/86)

I have found what I think is a small bug in the new system. Using my startup
screen causes severe problems it seems. Here's what I do:

	1) boot machine with a StartupScreen file in the boot volume (system
		folder).
	2) Finder 5.3 acts normal
	3) launch Word, no menus appear other than the Apple
	4) quit Word (using ^q, Finder either crashes or gets funny horizontal
		white stripes.

This always happens when my StartupScreen is used. It may happen with any
StartupScreen, but I have not checked on this.

craig doesn't say what version he's using, but I've heard it suggested
that even with System 3.2 that Apple is recommending steering clear of
startup screens for the time being.

Huh. We haven't had any problem with system 3.2 and startup screens. Also,
[who] [what] [where] suggested you stear clear of them?

Craig I have the new system software installed using an Init that allows the
startupscreen to be my desktop pattern, and I have had no problems with any
software that I have used including Word. It sounds like one of 2 things:
1. your Copy of Word is bad.
2. YOur system file(s) are corrupted in some way, replace them and start over.

This is on a 512k Mac with a 20 meg Micah DriveAT installed..new stuff works
fine....

We got the system software from compuserve. They now admit that the upload
was bad. Sorry about that.
