[net.micro.mac] Apple rumors

chuq@sun.uucp (Chuq Von Rospach) (07/02/86)

John (it ain't off the record) Dvorak's column in the Examiner sunday was
full of rumors about upcoming Apple products. Here is an overview of what
he mumbled:

o code name milwaukee: the 'apollo-killer', a real honest computer
workstation. three pieces: keyboard, monitor, and box. 020,
16 shades of gray (gray scales are much higher resolution than
straight monochrome, good for image processing and high resolution
text). Color will be optional. Resolution is 144 dots/inch and a
megapixel (1024x1024) screen. somewhere between 12-19 inch diagonal
screen. Six to eight slots (hopefully VME) an internal hard disk and
an optional 20 megabyte ramcard. It will use the software
developed by Cadmus (mac Toolbox on Unix, basically). It probably
WON'T be a macintosh compatible machine, but a new line. $7,000/

o code name dan'l boone: A new Mac, 020, up to 4 meg or ram, internal
hard disk, 1.6 megabyte floppy, double the current resolution of
	the Mac Screen.

o code name alladin: lap top Mac, being developed by alan kay. End of
	next year at the earliest.

o Two new laserwriters. One will be faster with 1000 dots per inch
(the current LW is 300dpi, the imagewriter about 70). The other
will be 300dip, slower (if THAT is possible) and cheaper.

This information is worth what you paid for it... especially considering
the source.... See you in January.

Dessert is probably the most important stage of the meal, since it will be
the last thing your guests remember before they pass out all over the table.
