I am posting in net.sources.mac the latest version of Simpletools. I received the new version 1.3 from Erik Kilk (the author) who asked me to post it. This version runs under Megamax C. I have not tested it. I got a letter from Erik saying that the problems with locking handles I experienced with the Lightspeed C compiler do not apply to the Megamax version. The compilers handle dereferencing differently. Erik has included several new routines in the Megamax C version: getfile(), putfile() and havenewrom(). Their use is described in the comments, and they are HFS compatible. He warns in his letter to me that he has not been able to check the routine havenewrom() in a non-upgraded Mac, so beware (his words). He has also included a header file, simple.h, for use by your application. I suspect that his new routine putfile() should begin char *reply; instead of sfreply *reply; but as I am no longer using Megamax C I could not make the change and test it. The manual is not part of this posting. It is identical to the version posted earlier with the Lightspeed C version. -- Glend. I can call spirits from the vasty deep. Hot.
