Dan Winkler at Apple was kind enough to respond to my query about there appearing to be an alternate MacDraw 'lines' menu. The following is the text from Dan's note to me. Meanwhile we will try to determine the circumstances of our alternate menu and report back. Jason De Mont ihnp4!mtuxo!jasond ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I asked the author of MacDraw about this and he doesn't know anything about any alternative menu. I would appreciate your passing this on to the net since our posting software is still broken. In a recent posting someone remarked that under certain circumstances the
'lines' menu in MacDraw is replaced by an 'alternate' menu. The question
was 1) when does this happen and 2) why is there an alternate menu. Dan
Winkler at Apple replied that even the author of the program did not know
there was such an alternate menu (!).
I've seen it too. I even know how to reproduce this 'alternate' menu - which
by the way seems to me to be a bug. I hope I'm talking about the same thing
the original poster saw - in any case this is something that needs to be
looked at.
The trick is to get one of the menu's to scroll up. So the first
thing to do is to put more da's or fonts in the system file than will
fit on the screen. (If you haven't applied the recently posted
patches to MacDraw, you will have to do it with DA's, or else use the font
menu of the KeyCaps deskaccessory). When you've done that, pull down this menu
and drag the mouse down until you hit the bottom and the menu starts scrolling.
Now (and this is the trick) move the mouse to the side, so as not to make any
selection at all - the menu remains scrolled up (this is what seems to
matter). Next, go to the 'lines' menu... If you haven't seen this, you're in
for a (little) surprise!
Incidentally, the scrolling-menu-feature seems to cause other problems too!
For an even more interesting effect, try scrolling up the apple menu
in Red Ryder. This completely messes up da-menu, since the icon next to
the 'about RR' item is not an integer number of line spacings tall.
