[net.micro.mac] Help wanted: digitizing point coordinates

pds@entropy.UUCP (Paul Sampson) (07/28/86)

My apologizes if this request has appeared previously. I posted
it (I thought) to net.micro.mac, but I didn't see it appear, so
I'm trying again.

I have a simple task in mind: digitizing (with reasonably high resolution)
specific point coordinates located on a series of photographs or x-rays.
I thought this would be simple with a digitizing tablet like MacTablet:
I would simply write a Basic program to read in mouse/pen
coordinates. However, on reading the Basic documentation I learned
that the digitizing pen functionally replaces the mouse, and that (in
Basic) coordinates can only be input at the pixel/bit-mapped level of
resolution within windows. There must be a way to obtain coordinates at the
level of resolution of the digitizer itself (something like 500 lines/in).
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows how to handle (or
has software for) this simple task. (A surprising number of people
knowing something about MacTablet, including a sales rep, have been
unable to help me so far.)
