I was recently handed a Macintosh (Plus) disk containing a datafile from Microsoft File. The request was to try to move the data to another database program and format (Actually InfoStar on CP/M-80!) On examination of the file, using a shareware program called Fedit, I discovered that the file format was not exceedingly straightforward. If I was to get the data over to the CP/M system, I don't think I could convert the file to the other format. What I need to know is... Will Microsoft FILE output data in an alternative format, perhaps a fixed length record format or a CR and Comma Delimited format? Should I therefore go back the the owner of the data and ask him to write it again? With what options or parameters, since he is not likely to understand about file formats and the like. Should I give up? Perhaps I can get him to print a report to disk that I can then process. Please send EMAIL and I'll post a summary if there is interest. My signature file below contains good contact information. -edg -- Ed Greenberg | {hplabs, glacier}!well!micropro!edg MicroPro International Corp. | {ucbvax, decwrl}!dual!micropro!edg San Rafael, California | {lll-crg,ptsfa}!micropro!edg (415)499-1200 x4096 | micropro!edg@lll-crg.arpa
