[] I'd like some advice on current options for upgrading an old 128K Mac to 512K. I remember back several months when this was an ongoing discussion, but things seem to have died down recently. Unfortunately, I had no use for the information at the time, and things may have changed since then. (I don't have a Mac, this is for a friend of mine). Anyway, I'd like whatever info people have regarding the best way to go on this, with respect to price, problems, and other gotchas (such as warranty problems). At the time of the last discussion, the cheapest path to take was to do-it-yourself with the help of a Dr. Dobb's article. Can anyone comment on the advisability of this route? How much would this cost at current prices and how tough is it? If it makes any difference, I'm in the Los Angeles area. Please respond by mail, unless you really think the net wants to go into this topic again! Thanks much for whatever advice you might have to offer. /Kevin Carosso {allegra|ihnp4|seismo}!scgvaxd!engvax!kvc Hughes Aircraft Co. engvax!kvc @ CIT-VAX.ARPA

Does anyone have any experience with 3rd party memory upgrades for 512K Mac's? I am particularly curious about the one from Vision Technologies in Austin, TX which advertises a 2 Meg upgrade for $339 (+$39 for a fan). This is the one under "MAC DISKS" on p. 137 of the August MacUser. If I receive any responses, I will summarize and post to the net. steve ferry steve@UKMA.BITNET ukma!ferry@anl-mcs.arpa
