[net.micro.mac] Diskettes

saeta@h-sc4.harvard.edu (peter saeta) (08/06/86)

Thanks very much to all who responded to my query. The favorite suggestion
was BEST Computer Supplies in San Jose, California (1-800-351-BEST), and their
prices seem about the best.

In my haste, I called all the places listed in the current edition of MacUser
and found the best price at MacStore in Texas (1-800-847-0026). I bought
200 DS/DD (bulk) Sony diskettes for $1.75/ea plus shipping. Since I was in
a hurry, I ordered 2-day delivery, which brought the total cost to $1.8375/ea.
The diskettes come in unlabeled boxes of 50, two boxes of 50 packed in
a cardboard box bearing the Sony label. Service was excellent; the diskettes
arrived before I had time to hunt up the number and call to see if they were
on the way!

I recently bought a few unlabelled DSDD 3 1/2" diskettes from a nomadic vendor
at our local user's group meeting. The guy, selling under the name "Computer
Supply" said they were made by "Hollenbeck" (Spelling?) and was charging $1.50
each. They came without labels the first time I saw him. The second time, he
had a few loose white ones you could take.

So far, I have had no problems with these disks, but since I have a Dataframe20
I am not a heavy diskette user. Does anybody else know who this company is?
Are there any other experiences with theses disks?

Oh yes, the Price Club in San Diego's Morena Blvd store has Sony DSDD in boxes
of ten with assorted colored labels for $19.99 (+5% member fee where applicable)
This may be better for those of you who aren't prepared to buy 50 at a time.

Does BEST Computer Supplies accept OverSeas orders (aka. Australia) ?
Do they accept credit cards, like American Express?
