I sent a message a while back to the people who wrote the Lockout accessory, mentioning some of the comments that appeared here (namely, the comments about functionality -- I don't remember saying anything to them about advertising). The reply they just sent back follows. -- Thomas Newton ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: BEYOND Stuart J. Davison To: T.NEWTON Thomas D. Newton Sub: LockOUT responses Hi! Thank you very much for posting LockOUT v1.0 to the Net. A friend of ours who is on the Net showed us some of the feedback that you mentioned in your message in the Mac Freeware/Shareware section of GEnie. Just to let you know what the status is so that you may write responses to the people on the Net that had comments about LockOUT: - We thought long and hard about LockOUT before it was released. What we came up with was a DA that allows you to walk away from your desk in the middle of an Application program without having to worry about someone tampering with your work in progress. - LockOUT v1.0 is easy to bypass by turning off or rebooting the Mac, but think about it... If someone turns off or reboots your machine while your away from it, they must be an a.sh..e anyway! - We are presently working on a new version of LockOUT that will be Switcher-Proof and it will also be able to protect hard disks from being used without the proper passwords. - We want people to continue to respond to our software with both suggestions for new features and any negative feedback on the Free software that we release. Please address any comments or suggestions to "BEYOND" here on GEnie. Also, you can call or write us at the address in the About box. - One final thing... The reason LockOUT v1.0 has "an advertisement" in it is to let people around the country and the world know that we write quality software. We would also like to think that we are giving back some piece of useful software to the Macintosh Public Domain, since it has given us so many useful tools which we use in our programming and general work. You may not like the "Ad" but that is why LockOUT v1.0 and Fast Formatter v2.1 are FREE and not shareware. - Look for new versions of LockOUT and Fast Formatter in the coming months and please continue to give us your suggestions... They are greatly appreciated. Thank you, Mike Pell BEYOND P.S. PLEASE post the above message on the Net to let the users on there know that we recognize their suggestions and are presently working to improve LockOUT and Fast Formatter. Also, please write me back here on GEnie at "BEYOND". Thanks... =END=

Could someone post the Fast Formatter mentioned in Beyond's reply to Thomas Newton? Thanks, jason ( baron@runx.oz && jasonh@psych44.su )
