[net.misc] Genuinity? of Phobias in Phobia List

rcj (12/23/82)

In response to a couple of queries, I must defend my phobia list. All
of the phobias listed there are as "real" as is possible; (i.e. they
all came from actual printed books!!) they came from various sources
but all were backed up by at least one good English dictionary. ALL
of them can be found in Mrs. Byrne's Dictionary, which is considered
by most to be a very competent source for obscure, but nonetheless
real, words.

The only two exceptions were both marked with the :-) "I'm just kidding"
logo so popular on the net. These two were "aibophobia", the fear of
palindromes (may be found, among other places, in "The Devil's DP
Dictionary"), and "flamophobia".

Flamophobia (fear of posting tongue-twisters to net.general) is my word
for the fear of being flamed or of doing something that will get you
flamed on the net.

By the way, I received an addendum in the mail which is also very :-)

shhophobia -- fear of librarians
